The World Is Yours is the first children’s book that I have ever been involved in and I’d like to tell you a little bit about it’s gestation. We recently launched our kickstarter for the book and as long time listeners of FanBrosShow know, I wasn’t always a world famous podcaster with millions upon millions of listeners hanging onto my every word. At one point, I was just another number in the system that for some reason is still referred to as a correctional facility. The circumstances behind my incarceration are another story, and in fact another book in itself, but we will get to that in a minute. Let’s just say that I was locked behind bars in a place that was as far away physically as I had ever been from my friends and family.
I had always been a writer of one sort or another and while I was incarcerated I wrote constantly, mainly to escape the situation that I found myself in. One of the many things that I wrote was a poem that I intended to give to my nephews and nieces. As this was the first time that I had been incarcerated, and due to various circumstances I had no idea how long I would be away for, I wanted to give them something that I felt would guide them through their life.
When I was released, I ended up posting the poem on Facebook and one of my best friends Marcus Alleyne suggested that it would work even better as a children’s book. When he said the words I felt something click inside me, as I had always wanted to write a children’s book but I had no idea where to start or even what the theme of a book would be. Since Marcus is an incredible artist that I’ve known since my earliest days at Howard University, it seemed like a no-brainer. After making some changes to the wording and Marcus creating the beautiful hand painted artwork we are ready to present our creation, The World Is Yours.
Now that we have come to the time of actually kicking off our Kickstarter for The World Is Yours, I can’t lie my heart is racing at the idea of our creation being presented to the world. I’ve gathered some images from the book here and you can also watch the video we put together for the Kickstarter. This is really a dream come true for both Marcus and I and we hope that you appreciate the love and care that went into every word and brush stroke. Please check out our kickstarter and spread the word about it to your friends and family, and if you like what we are doing please support our efforts. Thank you.
