SyFy Renews The Magicians
Take one part Harry Potter, add in a splash of Narnia, crank up the sex and violence quotient, and you get one of SyFy Network’s most popular series. Based on a series of novels by Lev Grossman, The Magicians was just renewed for a 13-episode season, to premiere in 2019. Currently in its third season, the show follows a group of students attending a fictional academy, Brakebills University, the only magical school in North America, currently in upstate New York. Once enrolled, main character Quentin Coldwater discovers that the world from his childhood books is very real and may represent a major threat to humanity.
The Magicians has been a consistent hit for the network and is currently SyFy’s highest-performing scripted original series with adults 18-49 for three years running. Season three follows the gang on a quest to restore magic to the world of Fillory after an eventful season two finale. Seasons one and two of The Magicians can be found in Netflix, while season three is airing currently. Be sure to check out Ashanti Williams’ weekly recaps here.
The Magicians airs on SyFy, and stars Jason Ralph, (Aquarius, Madam Secretary) Stella Maeve, (The Runaways, Law & Order: SVU) Arjun Gupta, (Nurse Jackie, How to Get Away with Murder) Rizwan Manji (Mr. Robot, Schitt’s Creek) Hale Appleman, (Teeth, Private Romeo) Rick Worthy, (Battlestar Galactica, The Man in the High Castle) and Olivia Taylor Dudley (CSI: Miami, Transcendence)
