After being announced last Spring, and purportedly in production limbo for a considerable amount of time, Gemini Man officially started production early this week. The project had been shipped around to Hollywood for over 20 years with various directors attached, but with Ang Lee, and now Will Smith on board, all systems are finally go for this sci-fi epic! Smith stars as Henry Brogan, an elite assassin who is suddenly targeted and pursued by a mysterious young operative that seemingly can predict his every move. With the spec script drawing parallels to Rian Johnson’s Looper, even 2017’s breakout Logan, expect high thrills, with an emotional punch to boot, given Lee’s ability to go for the heartstrings.
Gemini Man was initially written by David Benioff, half of the duo responsible for HBO’s Game of Thrones. Famed producer Jerry Bruckheimer will also be producing the film, along with David Ellison’s Skydance Media. Skydance has produced multiple genre films, including Star Trek: Beyond, Terminator Genisys, and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. With a team this talented on board, we wait with baited breath as more production news drops. Additional cast members have been announced, with actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead as the female lead, Danny. Winstead won the role against fan-favorite actress, Tatiana Maslany of BBC’s Orphan Black.
Gemini Man, from Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media releases on October 4, 2019 and stars Will Smith (Bright, Suicide Squad) Mary Elizabeth Winstead, (Death Proof, 10 Cloverfield Lane) Benedict Wong (Dr. Strange, Marco Polo), and Clive Owen (The Knick, Shoot ‘Em Up)
