Riverdale: Season 2, Episode 1 RECAP
Something wicked this way comes as we return to Riverdale. Season 1 saw the idyllic picture of middle America shattered with Jason Blossom’s murder. With his blood bled sins and secrets from both sides of the tracks. Now season two’s mystery brings new mayhem. Follow every twist and turn here with our weekly recap. “I Know What You Did in Riverdale.”
Chapter 14 resumes where it left off – a shooting in Pop’s Diner. The social hangout is now a crime scene, with Archie Andrews’ father, Fred, lying in a pool of his own blood. Archie’s cries for help go unheard as he drives his dying father to the hospital. He immediately calls his friends: Betty, Veronica and Jughead.
Surrounded by friends and family, Ariche details the robbery gone wrong as Fred is rushed to emergency surgery. His story remains the same as he tells the sheriff and views a lineup at the police station. A man in a black hood shot his father and fled the diner. But both he and Jughead have an inkling it wasn’t a random act of violence.
Jughead promises to question the Serpents of any rogue members who may have wanted retribution against the Andrews. Veronica has her own theory, and questions her mother about the shooting. Appalled Hermione claims complete innocence and warns her daughter to never assume the worst of her again. Especially with her father Hiram due home soon.
Speaking of mother/daughter rivalries, Cheryl Blossom arrives at the hospital for a different reason. A terrible fire consumed Thornhill, leaving Mrs. Blossom covered in third degree burns. At least that’s what Cheryl tells everyone. She fails to mention she set the fire as rebellion against her mother’s stronghold on her life. Cheryl is the perfect type of crazy, and this show makes you root for her regardless.
Archie and Veronica return to the scene of the crime looking for Fred’s missing wallet. When they don’t find it, Archie finally divulges an additional detail about the shooting. The shooter took his father’s wallet, which means he could return. Now its his duty to protect his father, who miracuously survives.
The episode closes in the neigborhing town of Greendale. Archie’s old flame Ms. Grundy is ending a music lesson with another male student. As he leaves, she’s grabbed from behind, strangled to death by a masked figure. Someone knows what happened in Riverdale, and it seems their out for revenge.
Excellent start to a season which promises a horror-tinged theme. It’s already apparent in some of the camera shots and use of music. Especially in Fred’s unconscious scene. I’m ready for the wild ride. Be sure to keep it locked here on FanBros.com for more Riverdale recaps!
