In the wake of Fred Andrews’ shooting, the citizens of Riverdale are served more bad news in episode two. Elsewhere Jughead and Veronica have parental issues while Archie’s PTSD has him seeing the Hood.

Last episode we witnessed someone murder Ms. Grundy, Archie’s former music tutor and lover. News reaches town as Archie assumes the hooded gunmen murdered his ex. But it’s soon revealed Grundy was a victim to a crime of passion, strangled by her own cello bow. The evidence points to a different suspect than Fred’s shooter.

From one crime to another, Jughead’s father, FP is looking at 20 years in prison. Jughead seeks the advice of a fellow serpent, who informs FP’s only chance of a reduced sentence is to have the Blossoms testify on his behalf.  Cheryl initially refuses until Betty blackmails her with the video footage of her father shooting Jason. Betty’s dark plan works as the judge agrees to revisit FP’s sentence.

Veronica can’t stand her father being home, especially as she suspects he ordered the hit on Fred Andrews. When confronted he denies any involvement. When Veronica tries to coax her mother to her side, Hermione flips the script defending Hiram. Her loyalty to this man is unshakeable.

In the midst of all this, Betty works to save Pop’s Diner from closure. The shooting has stirred bad press for the sock hop. She works to organize a rally behind Pop’s with the help of the high school and the Pussycats. The fundraiser, accompanied with a strange cover of Kelis’ “Milkshake” save the only fast food restaurant in town. That and Hiram Lodge’s gratuitous donation. Of course any good from Lodge has an ulterior motive, one Betty’s mother quickly uncovers. The diner is a hub for drug transactions.

This isn’t the only deal being done in the dark. Consumed with fear, anger and desperation, Archie purchases as sense of security – a gun. And rightfully so as the episode closes with two more lives violently silenced by the killer’s bullets. Riverdale has a serial killer on the loose.
