Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur Animated Series, Coming From Disney and Laurence Fishburne!

The world of Marvel Entertainment is about to get a little smaller, but bigger at the same time once Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur comes to television. An animated series based on the popular comic was recently announced, produced by Laurence Fishburne’s Cinema Gypsy Productions. The comic book written in 2016 by Amy Reeder centers around a 9 year-old African-American girl, Lunella Lafayette, the confirmed smartest person in the world in the current Marvel Universe. Dubbed “Moon Girl” by some classmates due to her tendency to daydream, Lunella discovers she has gifts beyond her vast intellect, and sets out on the grandest adventure of her short lifetime.

As if being smarter than the likes of Tony Stark, Reed Richards, and Hank Pym wasn’t enough, Lunella has physical backup in the form her partner, Devil Dinosaur. Referred to simply as “Devil,” this Jack Kirby creation is just as it sounds, a massive red Dinosaur! In the two years since creation, Lunella and Devil have partnered with the likes of Captain Marvel, stood against Doctor Doom, even been to the Moon and back! In the comics the character was recently a part of the Secret Warriors, hopefully leading to crossover with some of Marvel’s other animated properties. Moon Girl has also been a playable character in a multitude of mobile games.

Though the series was announced recently, a home as not been found as of now. Disney owns multiple channels, but Moon Girl is likely to end up on one of the media giant’s children’s networks, Disney XD, Disney Jr., and the original Disney Channel. There’s even a possibility the show could debut on Disney’s upcoming streaming service!

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is a working title and is subject to change over time. Marvel Animation and Cinema Gypsy Productions will partner as well to produce the series. Marvel Animation has produced various series including the upcoming Secret Warriors project! Laurence Fishburne and Cinema Gypsy are also executive producers of ABC’s black-ish, as well as the new hit, Freeform’s grown-ish.
