The next generation of Marvel is a beautiful sight, and we’re not just talking art style. As if there wasn’t enough to look forward to from Marvel Entertainment in 2018, it just can’t come fast enough. Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors prepares to take the spotlight from multiple fronts in the multimedia project, and the future looks bright indeed. “There’s superhero stories, and then there are MARVEL superhero stories,” says Cort Lane, producer for the upcoming series as well as some other recent favorites, Avengers Assemble and Ultimate Spider-Man. The adolescent heroes of this tale join forces to prove that themselves in the faces of their adult contemporaries, relatable to most teens, super-powered or otherwise. The series of six, 4-minute digital shorts is positioned to “open the door to the future,” with a full-length feature animated movie at a later date.
“We wanted to show the world that these heroes are important to the Marvel Universe. That there is a character for every kind of Marvel fan out there.” Sana Amanat, Marvel Editor and co-creator of its first major Muslim superhero Ms. Marvel, Kamala Khan. Actress Kathleen Khavari (Big Little Lies, Insecure) will be reprising the role of Ms. Marvel that she first played the role in the aforementioned Avengers Assemble. “We wanted to hire actors who could bring authenticity to the role, but also connect with the audience, and so that’s how we cast the show, says Cort Lane” Some other heroes include Squirrel Girl, Inferno, Patriot, Spider-Gwen under her new moniker, “Ghost Spider,” and Quake, played once more by actress Chloe Bennet. Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors will also feature Young Avengers’ America Chavez, and Patriot, though this is the Rayshaun Lucas version of the character, and not Elijah Bradley.
