James Wan to Direct “Resident Evil” Reboot

It looks like the Umbrella Corporation is back in business and they got an upgrade.

Reports have come in from Deadline that director James Wan (Saw, Insidious, Furious 7) will be heading to Raccoon City after completing Aquaman for Warner Bros./DC, as it looks like we’ll be seeing the Resident Evil film reboot in the near future. He will be joined by producer Greg Russo, whom he’s previously worked with on Mortal Kombat.

The film will be with the production groups Constantin Films and Screen Gems. This is coming hot off of the recent success in China with the latest/final film in the current franchise bringing in a record-breaking $160M weekend debut.

Personally, I feel Wan is an excellent fit IF this series is going towards the tone of the successful Resident Evil 7 game released earlier this year. In fact, the scene below from Insidious 2 gives me confidence that we may get the movie this franchise has deserved for years.
