The wait is finally over! After teaser footage premiered at the D23 Expo this past July, Marvel Studios releases the full trailer for Avengers: Infinity War. The video starts with a variation of Nick Fury’s speech during the first Avengers movie in which he details his original plans for the Avengers Initiative. In the revised version, characters from the MCU parrot the speech, with members like Iron Man, Thor, Vision, and Black Widow handling voiceover duties. The new footage also shows off new pairings of heroes, Dr. Strange and the Hulk for example, but the turning point comes with arrival of Thanos, the ultimate villain of the current MCU. It is important to emphasize “current,” as Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently stated that the follow up to Infinity War, the as of now untitled fourth Avengers film, will be the finale of the of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “There will be two distinct periods. Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after. I know it will not be in ways people are expecting.”
With possession of just two of the Infinity Stones, Thanos is by far the most powerful threat any of the heroes have faced to date. It’s going to take the combined might of the entire MCU to keep the would-be tyrant at bay. Interesting of note, Corvus Glaive, Vision’s human appearance, the Iron Spider suit in action, and a united Wakandan military versus a massive horde of Thanos’ Outriders!
Returning franchise members include Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chadwick Boseman, Tom Holland, Scarlett Johannson, Don Cheadle, Paul Bettany, Tessa Thompson, and of course Josh Brolin as the Mad Titan, Thanos. Avengers: Infinity War releases in May of 2018, followed up by the fourth Avengers movie in 2019.
