Fresh off the heels of the momentum leading into Black Panther, Marvel Studios premiered the first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp, coming early this Summer. Scott Lang’s been a part of some big events, most recently seen in Captain America: Civil War. Unfortunately, life hasn’t gotten much easier since being freed from The Raft. The trailer goes on to show the character, played by Paul Rudd, being placed under house arrest, while Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) go on the run themselves, using ‘Pym Particles’ to shrink the very building itself. Director Peyton Reed is back to take the helm, becoming one of the few to make two films in the MCU. If the first movie was a heist film, this one appears to be all about the chase, akin to The Italian Job or Ronin. With talk that a solo Black Widow movie is finally in development, Marvel Studios may also be looking to gauge how fans react to a woman in the spotlight who isn’t an Amazon, with this release.
The movie may be called “Ant-Man AND the Wasp,” but Evangeline Lilly steals the trailer right out from Rudd’s gentleman thief! Throughout the entirety of the trailer, all of the action and combat scenes feature The Wasp heavily. There’s only a few brief shots of Ant-Man in costume, even still, The Wasp gets all the action. The trailer also features a “blink and you’d miss it” look at Laurence Fishburne as Bill Foster. Comics fans may remember Foster as Goliath, who later took over the “Giant-Man” persona from Hank Pym during the 70’s.
